The latest rant by Kevin McCarthy about Trump’s most recent indictment concerning the Jan 6. Insurrection, and relating it to the 2000 election between Al Gore and George Bush, showed McCarthy’s soul is in a place I don’t think even Satan is interested in.
This guy is akin to some circus clown running around trying to please everyone out of fear that he might lose his Speakership, a position he had to tender up most of his already pathetic soul to get.
Now we understand that many election results get contested. It’s the right of every candidate in the election process. Contested elections usually start with a recount, then the court, and acceptance of the final decision by the court.
The problem occurs when someone such as Trump refuses to accept the court’s ruling and turns the whole process into a circus and an illegal one. For McCarthy to begin to draw parallels between democratic election results protests and the clown show Trump put on is just an indication of how much of his soul McCarthy had to sell to get the speakership.
But to then even begin to relate it to the 2000 election between Al Gore and George Bush is beyond ludicrous. In 2000, Florida was a swing state that Bush initially won, but the margin was so small that it triggered an automatic recount. After Gore contested the recounts, a suit was filed in the Supreme Court, ending the recount process and leaving Bush the winner by 537 votes. Jeb Bush, George Bush’s younger brother, was the governor of Florida at the time and certified the vote for his older brother.
And here’s the kicker. Guess who was vice president and had to oversee the certification of the electoral votes in the House of Representatives? You guessed it…Al Gore. Even after the recounts that took over a month, Gore knew his responsibility to the American people and didn’t hesitate to do his Constitutional duty.
Now, fast forward to 2020. If the margin in Georgia was 537 votes in favor of Biden and Biden’s brother had the ultimate responsibility of certifying the election results and did so for Joe Biden, what kind of craziness would Trump have solicited given that circumstance? Hell, after 63 lawsuit losses, many heard by Trump-appointed judges, he still caused an insurrection. What would have ensued, given the circumstances of the year 2000?
Trump’s zero-sum attitude, taught by his father, Fred, put him on a path to destroying American democracy. And now here we are, having to listen to all the Trump sycophants, trying to justify his actions to the point of absurdity. The MAGA leader that had his MAGA morons chanting “Lock Her Up,” in cultish fashion, referring to Hillary Clinton, his political opponent at the time, now has those same MAGA morons complaining how the democrats have weaponized the DOJ to “Lock Him Up.” There isn’t weaponization of the DOJ. Indeed, it is not like Trump attempted to weaponize it by telling the acting Attorney General at the time to “just say there was election fraud and let me and the Republican lawmakers do the rest.” While Fred was teaching Donnie boy about life being a zero-sum game, perhaps he should have also taught him that “what goes around, comes around.”
